Tech giant Alphabet is terminating employment contracts for most Google Help workers attempting to unionize. Alphabet Workers Union claims this violates labor law protecting employees from retaliation for unionizing. Over 70% of the proposed bargaining unit, including writers and designers in Texas and California, were informed of job cuts in a live-streamed "town hall" without a chance for questions. The workers assert Google is their employer, not just Accenture, and have asked the NLRB to recognize Google as a joint employer. Previously, Alphabet contract workers joined the global workforce, and a group of Congnizant Technology Solutions Corp. contract workers voted 41-0 to unionize, upheld by the NLRB.
