The UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has announced that leading AI companies OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic have made a commitment to prioritize the UK's access to their AI models for research on AI safety. This decision follows the recent announcement by the UK government to host an international AI safety summit later this year. In their commitment, the companies have offered early or priority access to their AI models to support research and safety efforts, as well as assist in evaluating AI systems to gain a better understanding of the associated opportunities and risks. To support these endeavors, Sunak has pledged £100m to establish an expert AI safety taskforce dedicated to AI foundation models. Additionally, the government aims to position the UK as the global hub for regulating AI safety.
