The AI chatbot ChatGPT, which gained immense popularity since its launch in November, experienced a decline in website traffic and unique visitors for the first time in June, according to Similarweb. Global traffic to the ChatGPT website decreased by 9.7% compared to May, with unique visitors dropping by 5.7%. The time spent by visitors on the website also decreased by 8.5%. This decline suggests a waning novelty effect for the chatbot. Analysts speculate that the data reflects a greater demand for generative AI with real-time information. OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, did not provide immediate comment on the matter. Despite the recent slowdown, ChatGPT remains a highly popular consumer application, boasting over 1.5 billion monthly visits and surpassing Microsoft's Bing search engine. The decline in growth may help control the significant costs associated with running ChatGPT.
