Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced AWS HealthScribe, a new HIPAA-eligible service that enables healthcare software providers to build clinical applications using speech recognition and generative AI. The service automatically generates preliminary clinical documentation from patient-clinician conversations, saving time for clinicians. It uses a single API to create transcripts, extract key medical details, and generate summaries for electronic health records (EHRs). AWS HealthScribe incorporates responsible AI practices by providing references to the original conversation transcript for every generated text, ensuring accuracy and transparency. Customers like 3M Health Information Systems, Babylon Health, and ScribeEMR are already using the service.
